Understanding Faith:  Day 1: What is Faith?

Understanding Faith:  Day 1: What is Faith?

Key Topic: Unity In The Family
Scripture: Hebrews 11:1 NIV
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”

Lesson Content:

Faith is often misunderstood, but at its core, faith is confidence and assurance in God’s ability to perform what we are believing Him for. It is a submission to His ability over our ability. Faith is active when we rest in the conviction that God’s promises are true, even when we can’t see them or fully understand them. Hebrews 11:1 gives us a powerful definition of faith, explaining that it’s not merely wishful thinking or vague hope, but a deep assurance or firmness in what God has promised and the unseen realities He has prepared.

As people of faith, we make the decision to stand and hold on to God’s word until we see it come to pass. As you start this journey of understanding faith, remember that it’s not about seeing to believe. It’s about trusting in God’s character and His word, even when the outcome is unclear. We do not see to believe; but rather we believe to see. The word says in 2 Corinthians 4:13we believe therefore we speak.” When you walk by faith and not by sight you will change what you see.

Application:

Think about an area in your life where you are struggling to trust God. Ask Him to strengthen your faith and remind you of His faithfulness in the past.

Closing Prayer:

Lord, help me to understand and grow in my faith. Teach me to trust You more, even in areas where I don’t fully see the path ahead. Strengthen my confidence in Your promises.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Challenge for the Day:

Today, take a moment to reflect on any unresolved conflicts or areas where pride or unforgiveness might be affecting your relationships.

  1. Humility: Choose one situation where you can humble yourself, whether it’s admitting a mistake or letting go of your own desires for the sake of peace.
  2. Forgiveness: Identify someone in your life who may need forgiveness, and make a conscious decision to release any grudges or resentment. Pray for the strength to forgive as Christ forgives us.

At the end of the day, reflect on how embracing humility and forgiveness impacted your interactions and your sense of peace. Let today be a reminder that when we choose to follow God’s example, unity and love flourish in our relationships.

Faith Confession:

Lord, I confess that at times I struggle to fully understand and trust in Your plan for my life. I may doubt, question, or let fear cloud my faith. Help me to deepen my understanding of Your love and Your word, and to trust You more fully, even when I don’t have all the answers. Teach me to rely on Your wisdom and strength, knowing that You are always with me, guiding me every step of the way. Strengthen my faith and help me to live it out daily.

We Confess this by faith
