Understanding Faith:  Day 2: The Object of Faith

Understanding Faith:  Day 2: The Object of Faith

Scripture: Matthew 17:20 NIV
He replied, Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’”

Lesson Content:

Faith is not just about having a lot of belief; it’s about the object of that belief. There is potential in your faith that has the POWER to produce. In Matthew 17:20, the focus is not on the size of the seed, but rather the potential within the seed. If you have confidence in the source of your faith, your faith will produce the impossible in your life.

When your words are attached to your confidence in God, you will see those words work in your life. Little faith is often identified when your confidence and focus are on something other than God. As believers, we know that with God (and faith in God), all things are possible. The Bible says in Matthew 19:26, “With God, all things are possible.” Confidence must be in God!

Even when things seem uncertain, faith in God assures us that He is working, making a way where there seems to be no way. No matter what it looks like, feels like, or sounds like, God is working in my favor. Confidence must remain in His Word, and we must declare His Word until we see it manifested in our lives, by faith.

Faith is solidified when we focus not on what we lack, but on who God is (All-powerful, All-knowing, and All-loving). Knowing that He is a powerful and loving God causes my faith to become unwavering. So, I must keep living by faith until my faith becomes a lifestyle of faith that has the power to produce greater things in my life because His power is limitless, and His love never fails.

Application:

Where is your faith today?

Is it firmly placed in Jesus, or are you putting your trust in your own strength or circumstances?

Today, ask God to realign your heart to trust in Him fully.

Closing Prayer:

Lord, thank You for reminding us that faith is not about the size of our belief, but about the strength of the One in whom we place our trust. We surrender our doubts and uncertainties to You, knowing that You are the object of our faith, and in You, all things are possible. Help us to keep our focus on Your power, love, and promises. Strengthen our faith and guide us to trust You more deeply every day.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Challenge for the Day:

Today, take a moment to reflect on an area in your life where you need God to move. Speak words of faith, declaring His promises over that situation. (Find scripture concerning what you are believing God for and recite them)

Even if your faith feels small, trust that it has the potential to produce something powerful. Focus not on what you lack, but on who God is. Let your confidence be rooted in His Word and watch how He begins to move in your life.

Faith Confession:

Lord, I confess that sometimes my faith wavers and I focus on my limitations rather than Your limitless power. I choose today to place my confidence in You, knowing that with You, all things are possible. Help me to trust in Your Word and declare Your promises over my life. Strengthen my faith, and remind me that You are always working, even when I can’t see it. I trust in Your perfect plan and believe that You are making a way where there seems to be no way.

We Confess this by faith
